Democrats now see Palestinians, more than Israelis, with sympathetic eyes

By Cheryl K. Chumley - The Washington Times

OPINION:

A new survey from Gallup finds that for the first time, Democrats are sympathizing more with the plight of Palestinians than with Israelis.

From a political perspective: This is the not-so-surprising result of years of Democrats’ shift down Hard Left Lane. You know, the demographic that elected Rep. Ilhan Omar and her fellow Jew-hating squad members?

But from a biblical perspective: The drumbeat announcing the end days grows a little bit louder.

“And in that day I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it,” Zechariah predicts.

Including America.

Including Americans.

It’s not the end times unless all in the world turn against Israel — unless all governments of the world assemble against God’s chosen.

Under Democrats, that anti-Israel stance has grown by leaps and bounds.

“After a decade in which Democrats have shown increasing affinity toward the Palestinians, their sympathies in the Middle East now lie more with the Palestinians than the Israelis, 49% versus 38%,” Gallup wrote.

“Today’s attitudes,” Gallup continued, “reflect an 11-percentage-point increase over the past year in Democrats’ sympathy with the Palestinians.”

Eleven points in one year?

That’s massive.

“At the same time, the percentages sympathizing more with the Israelis (38%) and those not favoring a side (13%) have dipped to new lows,” Gallup wrote.

Meanwhile, animosity toward Israel continues to grow, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his coalition are making some long-coming reforms to the nation’s judicial system — changes the ideological left sees as threats to its power and the ideological right as curbs on activist judges.

President Biden weighed in with a phone call to Bibi to express “concern” over the legislative package, after which headlines like this ran, reporting a change in plans: “Netanyahu softens government’s judicial overhaul after Biden call,” NBC wrote.

Gallup, meanwhile, also found that independents have ratcheted their sympathies for the Palestinian people to record highs in recent times. By the numbers, 32% of those who claim political independence express more compassion for Palestinians than for Israelis — a hike of 6 points in the past year — while 49%, still a majority, say their sympathies stand with the Jewish people.

Shaky times for the Jewish people. America has historically been Israel’s staunchest ally.

With a couple more years of Democrats in control of the White House and Senate, it’s anybody’s guess where these new numbers, in terms of policy, will lead.
