" And Joseph dreamed a dream and he told his brothers and they hated him even more. And he said to them, 'Listen to this dream that I have dreamt." (From this week's Torah portion, Vayeshev, Genesis 37: 5-6)
Sound familiar? He dreams of leadership and brings his dream to his brothers. For their part, they continue to hate him and distance themselves from him. But he doesn't give up, continues to dream and to talk about it and continues to be the object of their derision. For 12 years, approximately from 2000 he is in the proverbial pit. But he doesn't despair and doesn't give up. Until the time comes for his dream to begin to become reality.
"I fear G-d," Joseph calms his brothers. Where true fear of G-d reigns, authentic leadership that stems from real brotherhood flourishes and everybody finds his place.
