Torah Thoughts for Parashat Shoftim

By MK Moshe Feiglin

  Eradicate Evil
"And you shall eradicate the evil from your midst." (From this week's Torah portion, Shoftim, Deuteronomy 17:7)

I do not always accept court decisions. It is good that President Katzav was sent to prison, but defining his actions as 'rape' seems more like surrender to the media/feminist lynch than a serious judgment. The same is not true, however, with Rabbi Motti Alon. This time it seems that the verdict is serious and fairly free of extraneous considerations. A very serious punishment is in order.

Death Penalty for Terrorists?
Should Israel institute the death penalty for terrorists convicted of murder? There is a G-d, and there is good and bad. Our Sages say that we must kill a person threatening to kill us before he has a chance to carry out his plan. This is true morality - based on the knowledge that there is a G-d in the world
