Call of the Hour - To Educate Towards Judaism and Zionism with Love

by HaRav Dov Begon
Rosh HaYeshiva, Machon Meir

“Our nation will be consolidated and restored to strength, when their noble, holy content, fear of and belief in G-d, spreads and grows stronger, improves and increases in fortitude. All those rebuilding our nation will arrive at the deep truth of this point. Then, with a loud voice full of valor and might, they will proclaim for themselves and their people, ‘Let us return to G-d’” (Rav Kook, Orot HaTeshuvah 15:11).

Rav Kook, faithful shepherd, and visionary of the generation of rebirth directs us to understand that only through a return to Jewish tradition shall we emerge from the spiritual and social crisis that has befallen our generation.

This change is exceedingly vital for the Jewish People at this time. The way to succeed in educating towards Judaism and Zionism is to teach children to respect and love Jewish tradition. The educational emphasis must be placed on Jewish identity and the uniqueness and destiny of the Jewish People as a nation. That person is not destined solely to survive, but also to bring light and goodness to mankind, as in G-d’s words to Abraham: “You shall become a blessing.... All the families of the earth shall be blessed through you” (Bereisheet 12:2-3).

We have to make our children familiar with Eretz Yisrael and with its decisive importance for the entire world, as the good land from which Torah will emerge for all: “For out of Zion shall the Torah go forth, and the word of the L-rd from Jerusalem” (Yishayahu 2:3).

We have to teach the love of one’s fellow man, love of Israel, and love of the Torah and Land of Israel. Teaching love and goodwill is not just possible but essential in our generation, which is so in need of love. We were born to love. Redemption and the redeemer will come through love, as we recite daily in our prayers: “And G-d brings a redeemer to His children’s children, lovingly for the sake of His name.”

Looking forward to salvation.
With Love of Israel,
Shabbat Shalom.
